Why not just get a new roof?
A new roof will stain too! The reason new shingles
take several years before stains begin to appear is because there is
no organic matter around the granules for the
stain producing fungi
and algae to grow on. As dust and pollen slowly accumulates on
the new roof the nightly summer dew, winter frost, snow and rain keep
the accumulating organic matter just damp enough for air born algae
and fungi spores to get started growing and multiplying on the roof.
At this point it is just a matter of time before the roof begins to
show the unsightly stains that ruin the appearance of any beautiful
home or property.

Can Zinc or
Copper granules or strips prevent roof stains? In most cases NO
Zinc and copper in the right amounts
spread evenly over the entire roof will work however that means
getting a new roof with stain resistant shingle shingles treated
with zinc or copper granules.
Let the buyer beware. Those
stain resistant shingles are warranted for only 10 to 15 years at
most while the shingle itself is warranted for 40, 50 or more years.
After 10-15 years the roof will stain and the homeowner gets to look
at their stained roof for the next 30 to 40 years.

Zinc strips installed on this roof did
not prevent roof stains here and it rarely does!
