From a skeptic to an advocate

We have owned this particular apartment complex for about 30 years. We are located on the South side of Atlanta near Hartsfield International airport. When we purchased this property it had outdated countertops and cabinets which made it very difficult to rent the units. Not to mention they were over 30 years old. We came in contact with SPR Refinishing a surface refinishing supply company at the Apartment owners  and Managers trade show in 1984. Afterwards Mr. Larry Stevens of SPR Surface Restoration visited our property and looked at our kitchens. He explained that a product called NuMica could make old counter tops look like new without replacing them. Whether that was true or not, we did not know since we had never refinished counter tops or cabinets before.  The samples we saw at the show and the ones he brought to show us, were convincing enough to persuade us to purchase some of the NuMica counter top glaze. He showed our maintenance crew how to prepare the counter tops and how to roll on the NuMica.  We are pleased to say that the counter tops we refinished looked great and have held up for many years.  We have continued to use the NuMica counter top coating to this day and have never replaced another counter top since then.  When a tenant moves out we must get that apartment ready to show as soon as possible or we loose money.  Our maintenance department never hesitates to refinish a counter top that is damaged or has an out of date color. We became believers

 I manager an apartment complex in Arlington VA.   I had a unit that was shown dozens of times but it did not rent because it had the ugliest, gold colored counter tops I had ever seen and they were stained and had burn marks. The kitchen was really ugly but the owner would not spend the money to replace them. When I showed the apartment people ran from it like it was on fire. 

To be honest I was skeptical when a representative of SPR Surface Restoration called us and explained that their company had a product called NuMica that could change the color on a countertop without replacing it.  I had never heard of such a thing.  But out of desperation I said lets see what your products can do. Within a few days out maintenance man received the NuMica products by UPS.  After reading the instructions and applying the NuMica he came to my office and ask "Do you have time to see your like new  countertops". When I entered the apartment I could see the counters from the front door.  I could not believe my eyes. The ugly gold counters were a beautiful soft white color and the kitchen looked totally different.  The very next couple that looked at the apartment rented it and they are still here after several years.

I became a believer and my boss did too. We now refinish our counter tops on a regular basis when tenants move out.  We want each new tenant to have a like new kitchen and keep our property current with today's newest colors.
